John Quackenbush Sr.

Obituary of John Lee Quackenbush Sr.

John Lee Quackenbush Sr, 71, a resident of Greenwich, went hunting in heaven, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Albany Medical Center.

He was born in Cambridge, NY, on April 6, 1952, to the late Francis and Doris (Bain) Quackenbush.

John and his Dachshund Katie were familiar faces around the Greenwich community.  He enjoyed walks around town, socializing with many people throughout his day.  One of his favorite hangouts was McDonald’s.

John graduated from Cambridge High School and worked as an equipment operator for NYRA at the Saratoga Harness Track and many farms throughout the area.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and one of Elvis’s biggest fans.  John selflessly served his community in the Middle Falls Fire Department, where he was a lifetime member.

John was charming, relaxed, friendly and outgoing and he will be missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Marion Quackenbush; brothers, Charles, Richard, and Steven; sisters Frances Butler and Charlotte Morris.

He is survived by his children, John (Linda) Quackenbush Jr. of Greenwich, Hollie (Rich) Willsey of Fort Edward and Dawn (Rod Barrett) Quackenbush of Corinth; grandchildren, Christopher Abare, Rylee Ingraham, Jaxx Ingraham, Tyler Quackenbush and Schuyler Quackenbush, Rick and Vinnie Willsey; great-grandchildren, Amelia Abare, Noah Willsey, and Henry Willsey; sister, Ruby Boynton; sister-in-laws, Pauline and Cynthia Quackenbush; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 21, 2024,  at Woodlands Cemetery, 76 N. Union St, Cambridge, NY, 12816.  Following his burial family and friends are invited to the Middle Falls Fire Department, at 2 pm for a reception.
