Obituary of Michael Joseph Dow

Michael Joseph “Mike” Dow, 44, a resident of Greenwich passed away on February 20th, 2024, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 9th,1980 in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was the son of Walter and Charmane (Parmeter) Dow of Greenwich.

Mike graduated from Greenwich Central School in 1998, where he was a standout 3 sport athlete in golf, baseball, and his true passion–basketball. Mike was a devoted fan of Syracuse athletics, especially basketball. Mike could often be found at the Dome, or watching them on TV; he never missed a game.

He was covered in SU tattoos and even nicknamed a daughter ‘Cuse’. He also loved local sports and spent most nights and weekends watching a game.  It didn’t matter if it was a game involving his own kids or his friends’, a niece or nephew, or watching his brother coach, he was there supporting them all, right up to the end.

Mike was predeceased by his grandparents, Walter and Marion Dow, and maternal grandfather Charles Parmeter.

In addition to his parents and wife Ashley, Mike is survived by sons Omar and Walker, daughters Izzy, Avery (Cuse), and Olivia; grandmother Mary Parmeter; brother Walter and spouse April, nephew Ryan, nieces Grace and Peyton; many aunts, uncles, cousins–too numerous to mention here–and last but not least, his loyal companion and dog, Joey.

Mike wanted to give special thanks to the following people for all that they have done over the past 4 years: the staff at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Schoenfeld and nurse Michelle Bazer; Mike Waters, Coach Allen Griffin, JGIII for special trips to Syracuse over the past few years and making some of his dreams come true; amazing friends Katie (the entire Vallone Family), Keith, Nick, Eric, Tommy, Matt, Theo, Shannon, Kevin, and Derek –whose support and kindness went above and beyond; and last but not least, his wife Ashley, and his parents and brother for all that they did to make the past 4 years, the best that they could be.

At Mike’s request there will be no calling hours. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, March 10th from 2-5pm at the Greenwich Elks Club.  Family and friends are encouraged to wear Syracuse Orange gear, or blue and orange colors.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital at http://mskcc.convio.net  or Greenwich Little League.

Last, the family would like to thank the entire Greenwich and Schuylerville Communities for all the love and support the past 4 years.  Words can’t express our gratitude for all you’ve done.

Online condolences and messages to the family may be made at www.flynnbrosinc.com.
