I am so very sad at the loss of Elton. I had the privilege of working with him at New York State Insurance Fund for 25 years---he was always thoughtful, dedicated and diligent in all that he did there as an auditor. And that was before his detailed after-hours genealogical sleuthing uncovered that we were second cousins---that his grandfather and my grandfather were brothers---but where the family had gone in different directions in the early years of the 20th century, following the untimely death of their father. Elton did most of his painstaking genealogical research in the pre-internet era, following census records, newspaper archives, cemetery records, any lead he dedicatedly followed, piecing together various family links. He was a man of many talents and interests. I will miss him greatly--and send condolences from all the descendants of Ivan Wood.

To Elton’s family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Elton came from a wonderful family. Elton’s father was my parent’s insurance man for years and always made house calls. His mother was also very lovely. I saw Elton at a gas station a ways back and he still remembered me and my parents. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Elton and I had many wonderful conversations about Wood family history- he was the best Wood researcher I've met in 50 years. A very sweet and considerate man- our talks gave me great happiness. For any Wood researchers, please contact me if you have questions to keep Elton's project going as I think he would appreciate.

Elton, who I had the privilege of working with and supervised for many years at NYSIF was one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. Having known him for so long, in my opinion, could have been a doctor. His knowledge of the medical industry and the body itself especially in regard to how it related to what we do was second to none. Beyond that he was a caring, quiet man who was easy to talk to if you spent the time to get to know him. A big loss for all. Scott Mochrie
